Anghy Idrovo

  • Anghy Idrovo is an experienced grassroots community organizer, political strategist and advocate for immigrant rights, education equity and racial justice.

At age 17, Anghy became involved in the immigrant rights movement, marking the beginning of her career as an organizer and advocate for education equity, women's rights, and racial justice. By age 23, she became the Co-Executive Director of CT Students for a Dream (C4D). Under her leadership, C4D successfully passed two major laws in Connecticut, including the historic #AffordToDream legislation, which equalized access to $150 million in institutional financial aid for undocumented students. Her work also contributed to securing Medicaid/HUSKY public health insurance for undocumented children under 15 years old and pre- and post-natal undocumented individuals, monumental victories for immigrant youth leadership in Connecticut.

Anghy also led on a national stage, spearheading the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ecuador campaign following the murder of a presidential candidate in September 2023 and the state of emergency declared in January 2024 due Ecuador’s internal armed conflict. She co-led the TPS for Ecuador National Coalition, a network of over 80 nationwide organizations advocating for work authorization, deportation protections, and healthcare access for undocumented Ecuadorians.

With a background in Psychology and a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Connecticut, Anghy brings a deep understanding of social movements, community organizing, and youth leadership development. She has extensive experience in volunteer organizing, electoral engagement, and policy work, making her a powerful force in advocating for systemic change.

At CT BBSU, Anghy is dedicated to fostering leadership among students of color, amplifying their voices in policy-making spaces, and ensuring they have the resources and support to thrive. Her work focuses on dismantling punitive disciplinary policies and the criminalization of Black and Brown students in K-12 public schools, advocating for policies that prioritize restorative justice, equity, and student well-being.

She is deeply committed to raising awareness about the intersections of race, class, and gender and challenging the school-to-prison pipeline that disproportionately impacts students of color. Guided by a drive to dismantle racist, anti-immigrant, and xenophobic policies, Anghy works to create a world where Black, Brown, and immigrant youth can reach their fullest potential in safe, supportive, and just educational environments.
